I love Networking and it’s how I meet many of my clients, particularly those who seek great Business Portraits for their websites, social media and LinkedIn. Networking is about communication and women love to talk. For example, women speak around 12,000 words a day and men only about 3,000 a day.
Recently I attended a fabulous women’s networking event in Manly called Business in Heels – Northern Beaches run by Ilona Marchetta of Pitch PR. That night, I met an Artist and fellow Photographer, Carrie Webster. We immediately resonated. Carrie handed me her business card. It looked like something that hangs in London’s Tate Modern and I had to know more.
After Networking events, drinking a couple of vinos (and speaking at least 24,000 words in 3 hours) I usually jump in a hot shower and greet the Land of Nod with anticipation, but not this night. I grabbed the iPad and typed in www.artfolio.com.au, Carrie’s website. Her images are surreal, magical and connected with my desire for the left field and unusual.
Carrie photographs everyday objects and then weaves her digital magic to transform them into a fantastical world. A carrot becomes an old fashioned aeroplane with a pilot and passenger. She morphs broccoli into trees and creates cows from melons and zucchinis that jump over the moon.
Her recent exhibition in Sydney, called Darkness & Light, was very successful and now she’s creating a storybook for children using her photographs. You can buy her Artwork through her website – one of these creations on your loungeroom wall would be a talking point with any guest.
Of course, I wanted to photograph this woman so that she has equally beautiful images of herself. The Universe listened and a few weeks later I got a call from Carrie, asking for Business Portraits. After seeing my work, she realised my style of Business Portraits are more than your average corporate headshot. I aim to capture an image of you that your customers will connect with before they have even met you.
I recieved an email from Carrie after her shoot. She said the reaction of when she posted one of her portrait images on Facebook was nothing short of over-whelming, and she has since continued to receive ongoing comments about her new photos. “I’m absolutely amazed at the reaction to the photos and I’m “over-the-moon” about the results you were able to create from our photo-shoot!”
I’ll leave you with a quote from Carrie’s website – it gave me goosebumps, especially the last sentence:
“I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death.”
– Robert Fulghum
It’s the stuff of dreams. Life is but a dream. Are you following yours?
